BA Noho Marae 2024 attendees.

The impact of our second noho marae continues to ripple through conversations, reflections, and renewed commitments.

This gathering was more than an event; it was a shared journey into the heart of connection, growth, and resilience. Building on the foundation laid at our inaugural noho at Ōnuku Marae in 2022, this experience once again demonstrated the transformative power of coming together with purpose and intention.

He mihi nui ki a Ngāti Rangitāne mō tō kaha manaaki i te hunga manuhiri. Nō mātou te maringa nui.

Your kōrero deeply humbled and inspired our roopu, leaving us with lasting gratitude for this special experience.

He mihi hoki ki a koutou kō Pūkaha Wildlife Reserve for hosting us in such a beautiful and inspiring setting, and to our guest speakers who generously shared their knowledge and perspectives.

Hamiora Gibson (also known as Sam the Trap Man)

To Hamiora Gibson, aka Sam the Trap Man, who spoke his truth, humbling the room with his words.  Hearing the heartfelt stories of the bush added depth and authenticity to the science that underpins BA’s work.

Members of our Kawau Mārō, Sam Luddon (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa) and Matetu Herewini (Te Whānau ā Apanui)

He mihi nui hoki ki te Kawau Mārō. A huge thanks to our Kawau Mārō members, Sam Luddon (representing Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa) and Matetu Herewini (representing Te Whānau ā Apanui) bringing with them the voices, values, and aspirations of their people. Your presence enriched our noho, grounding our discussions in what truly matters and reminding us of the diverse perspectives and sentiments that guide our collective journey.

To Jamilah from Waharoa Boutique Catering who kept our bellies full so we were nourished and ready to fully embrace the experience, thank you for continuing to be a part of our journey.

Looking Ahead

The breadth and depth of knowledge and information shared across our panel discussions is a testament to our network of early career researchers, supervisors, and mentors, as well as the wider BA whānau present.

This noho was different from the first, and yet equally rewarding. Looking ahead, we are excited to carry forward the learnings and connections into the next phase of our journey. This noho reaffirms our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders who are equipped to protect and sustain te taiao for generations to come.
